Job number three

Yup you read that right I have accepted a third job -- Oh and did I mention I don't get the summer off from school??

So yesterday I was interviewed and was offered a job as a Unit clerk on Unit 112. Which is the acute neuro unit at foothills hospital. So I am pretty happy. Typically as a nursing student you start on the unit as a Nursing Assistant (or PCA), But I was offered the unit clerk position so I am happy as I think I will be able to learn lots in this position and have fun. Plus it pays a bit better with is also a good thing!! woohoo!!

So it was a pretty happy day yesterday! Today back to the regular stuff working lots of hours at my other two jobs. Don't worry I will officially only have three jobs until May 12th and then I will no longer be an employee at Co-op my grocery cashier days will soon be over.

To be honest I think I will miss them a bit. It has been a good and fun job and my boss was VERY understanding with my schedule! So thanks to Calgary co-op for the hours and the fun!!

Spring?? hopefully

Today was absolutely gorgeous. I spent the first half of the day doing things that need to be done but then this afternoon I went for my first ride on my road bike since my ankle surgery. MAN did it feel good. The sun was shinning there was a wicked tailwind for at 1/2 of my ride and I just had a blast!! I was pretty happy with the out come too especially considering my bike is in a terrible need for a tune up! In 1 hour and 22min (wheel time) I went 29.5km!!! I was so happy. Okay for those of you who know me know that is a bit slow for me BUT I am terribly out of shape and it was my first ride post surgery. It will only get better!!

The best part was being out there feeling the bike and I meld into one machine feel the wind whistling around me AND best of all not having 49 layers on with the sunshine beating down on my face!! I loved it!

Here's hoping

I tried one of those new slide show things that you can post on blogger to show pitures and I will have to wait and see if it works. I posted the few pictures that I took in Fernie. It was a great trip and I throughly enjoyed meself even if I didn't do that much. In a way that was exactly what I needed to do on my break. I hung out with Cathryn meet some of her friends tried to see as much of Fernie as possible despite the continual grey skys periodic snow and rain. The town was great with lots of personality and independent spirit. It is a shame that change for this town is inevitable as it is great just the way it is. Now that RCR has bought it out it is only a matter of time before it becomes Banff. Sigh. I'm going to try my best to get back down there for a few more days this summer so that I can bike more and hike more. Time will tell though. They already have our reading assignments posted for our mental health course that starts on the 30th of this month. But I refuse to even think about that yet I'm still on vacation even if I am working every day this upcoming week. hehe!! No rest for the Nursing students.

The pluck of a human

With out getting into the details I just want to state for all of you out there what the human can endure is beyond your comprehension!! Today I witness a gentleman go through something that personally I can't ever imagine going through!! Good grief I have a hard enough time at the dentist let alone a procedure room on an acute neuro unit!! BUT I am here to tell you you will surprise your self when presented by a challenge...So try not to worry about the future too much as you will surprise yourself what you can do when presented by a challenge!

On a more personal note I had a landmark event today I went for a run/walk and I would like to tell you all I am up to running 5 min walking 4 minutes for 4 sets AND this was not inside it was outside!! The best part is it felt amazing!! Now all I have to do is sign up for a Tri!

Thirdly I got word today that I am the proud receiver of an international grant that will go toward my expenses of traveling to Australia for my last clinical placement!! Woo hoo!! So it was a pretty red letter day!

My Birthday

Another year older...my last year in the twenties!! Thanks to everyone who sent cards, emails, gifts, and what not!! You made my birthday very special! The biggest thing I did on my birthday is I drove down to the Vulcan area and celebrated my c0-birthday with my second cousin Sarah! It was great to see that part of my family. And it was nice to live vicariously through the excitement of a ten year old turning ten -- hehe!! So thanks to Sandy and her family for welcoming me into the celebrations.

Did I ever tell you that procrastination is my middle name

So yeah I know it has been forever and I'm not going to make excuses. What is, is and the rest is complaints, stories, and excuses.

I am currently in the last two weeks of my second clinical placement. I have been on a busy Acute Neuro Unit. For those of you who don't know what that means...basically we get anything and everything that involves your brain and the "wiring" that goes from your brain to the rest of you body. So it is pretty incredible the wide variety of cases we see and the different stages of emotions that we deal with. Some days are pretty funny and scary all at the same time. I'll tell you one thing we are not very often bored.

I am pretty excited as today I am going to be on the monitored side. What this means is that the patients are even more acute, so it requires a lot of immediate action. So who knows what I'll be in for. I'm looking forward to it. What is also means is that I will be exhausted tonight. Oh well. I have all day off tomorrow. No work and no school. I'm going to head to my cousins to celebrate my birthday with my second cousin who shares a birthday with me!! So that should be fun.

Anyways. I have tons of pictures that I have taken in the in between time BUT until blogger deems me cool enough to get the new blogger I'm not going to post any of the old pictures. I'm hoping that things are calming down a bit over the summer so I will try and keep this updated a bit more BUT I make NO promises.
